Lynda Susan Weinman (born January 24, 1955) is an American business owner, computer instructor, and author, who founded the online software training website, lynda.com, with her husband Bruce Heavin. Lynda.com was acquired by LinkedIn's online business network in April 2015 for $ 1.5 billion.

Weinman, with self-taught computer skills, works in the film industry as a special effects animator, and is a member of the faculty at the UCLA College of Art Design, and the University of San Francisco multimedia teaching program, teaching computer graphics, animation, interactive design, and motion graphics. He has also written several books.

Careers

A year after graduation, Weinman opened two retail stores, Vertigo in Melrose and Vertigo on Sunset in Los Angeles. They closed in 1982.

Weinman works for Dreamquest and as an independent contractor who performs animations and special effects. She works in several movies, including RoboCop 2 (1990), Bill & amp; Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989), and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989).

Weinman attributes his early interest in computers because he has taught himself how to use the Apple II when a boyfriend takes him home. He acquired this skill by reading the manual.

Weinman taught digital media and graphics at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California from 1989 to 1996. His book designing web graphics , published by New Riders in 1995, is often credited with being the first title to discuss web authoring technology from a visual design perspective.

Weinman was co-founder with her husband, Bruce Heavin, from Ojai Digital Arts Center in Ojai, California in 1999.

Lynda.com Online Training Library teaches computer skills in video formats to members through monthly and yearly subscription plans. The company was founded in Ojai, California and has since moved to Ventura and Carpinteria, California, where, in 2013, the company employs nearly 500 full-time staff members and more than 140 teachers who earn royalties from their shared revenue models. The company website was created in 1995 and the company was founded in 1997.

Lynda.com evolved from the original concept as a free web resource for Lynda's students, to the site for her books on web design, to the registration center for physical classrooms and conferences, to the online virtual knowledge library, where today, members can watch software and technology courses in several categories (3D and animation, audio, business, design, development, home computing, photography, video, and web and interactive design). The company also produces a documentary about creative professionals.

On April 7, 2015, LinkedIn acquired Lynda.com in a $ 1.5 billion deal. Sales were soon followed by a 10% cut in the company's staff. Over the next half year, layoffs continue when the Lynda.com department is folded into LinkedIn.

Flashforward Conference

Lynda.com and United Digital Artists Productions, Inc. (UAD) co-founded Flashforward Conferences and Flash Film Festival, which was first held in 1999. The Flashforward Conference, the first event focusing on Macromedia Flash, held fourteen events in San Francisco, New York, London, and Amsterdam, serving more of the 20,000 participants for six years. Flash Film Festival brings over 200 awards to Flash sites and apps, for winners from more than 30 countries. The last scheduled conference took place in August 2008.

Work

Weinman is the name and helper for 'Lynda Lab', Experimental Effect Lab at the Center for Creative and Applied Media (CCAM) at her alma mater, The Evergreen State College. The foundation has the promise of Weinman and husband, Bruce Heavin, to establish endowment support equipment at CCAM. Weinman and Heavin have also contributed to the scholarship at Art Center College of Design, as well as endowments for additional scholarships.
