Darr: The Love Story of Violence (English: Fear ) is the 1993 Indian romantic romantic thriller directed by Yash Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Film , inspired by the movie Cape Fear . It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol in the lead role. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of an obsessive lover. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Tanvi Azmi and Dalip Tahil.

The film was well received by critics and spectators, getting the film and actor awards, it was declared a "blockbuster" at the box office domestically and abroad. It has achieved classic status for years and is considered one of Chopra's best. Darr then re-created in Kannada as Preethse .

Plot

The film begins with Kiran (Juhi Chawla), a student, returning to his brother Vijay's (Anupam Kher) and his wife Poonam (Tanvi Azmi) for the Holi celebration and obsessively lurking along the road by Rahul (Shahrukh Khan), he classmates who had a crush on him. Kiran Sunil's girlfriend (Sunny Deol) is a Naval Command officer, and is on a mission to free a child hostage from several terrorists on the high seas. Sunil saved the child hostage. Sunil's Captain Mehra (Dalip Tahil) is also the father of Rahul. Rahul tries to be friends with Sunil to get closer to Kiran.

When Kiran arrives home, he is constantly being followed by Rahul on the phone. This caused a lot of stress on her and her family. She ran into the Kiran family Holi celebration, disguised as a member of the band. Sunil asks Kiran to offer the band money for their performance, where Rahul, veiled in the color of Holi, whispers "I love you, KKK-Kiran " to Kiran, which is very disturbing and chasing foot. to find the hooligans who attacked their home, but Rahul soon disappeared into the crowd.

When Rahul receives news about Kiran and Sunil's engagement, he tries to shoot and kill Sunil when the couple is shopping for a wedding ring. He missed his goal and Sunil started chasing him, from which Rahul almost escaped being recognized by Sunil.

Kiran and Sunil are married but Rahul still refuses to surrender to Kiran. He ruined the home of a newly married couple with graffiti declaring his love, causing more trouble for them. To get away from the stalker, Sunil brings Kiran to a surprise honeymoon to Switzerland. Learning their location through sneaky ways, Rahul appears at their hotel in the Alps. Kiran admits he's from college and the couple welcomes him to be part of their celebration. That afternoon, Sunil knew from Kiran's brother, Vijay that Rahul was the one who had been Kiran's stalker. He sends Kiran away by boat and faces Rahul. Rahul tries to run, but Sunil catches him in the woods where they quarrel. Rahul stabbed Sunil with a knife after pretending to surrender, and left him to die. He then went to the ship and tried to forcibly kidnap Kiran, he wanted to marry Kiran without his consent. But Sunil returns and brutally strikes him before shooting and killing him. Kiran and Sunil then returned to India and reunited with their families.

Production

Sanjay Dutt is the original choice of the role of Rahul's antagonist leader, but Chopra can not solve it because of his prison sentence for possession of illegal weapons. Sudesh Berry was then considered for the role, but was rejected after a screen test. Ajay Devgan is offered the role of Rahul, but he can not accept because of other commitments.

Later, Aamir Khan (who once worked at Chopra Parampara ) was chosen as Rahul. Khan then has another problem with filming because he is unhappy with the way the Deol character repeatedly suppresses his character in the sequence of fights. He is increasingly dissatisfied when Chopra refuses to give him and Deol a joint narrative of the script. Therefore, he finally opted out of the film altogether.

After Aamir Khan left the film. Shah Rukh Khan plays Rahul. Darr helped bring Shah Rukh Khan into a star and he went into feature in every Chopra director's endeavor after the movie. Rishi Kapoor and Jackie Shroff were offered the role of Sunil before Sunny Deol.

Nitish Bharadwaj was approached for Sunil's role after Rishi Kapoor and Jackie Shroff rejected the role. This is because of his remarkable popularity as Lord Krishna's role in B.R. Chopra Mahabharat . But Nitish dismisses the role that claims that his role is not as difficult as it will be.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack for Darr was compiled by Shiv Kumar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia. The film also features the song "Oops Up" by Snap! and various versions of "Right Here Waiting", originally recorded by Richard Marx.

It was the best-selling Bollywood soundtrack album of the year. The soundtrack album sold about 4.5 million units in India, generating at least INR 10.8 crore (equivalent to INR 56 crore or US $ 8.3 million in 2017). Rakesh Budhu from Planet Bollywood in his review gave the album 7.5 stars out of 10.

At the Indian domestic box office, Darr was the third best-selling film of 1993, after Aankhen and Khalnayak , and was declared a blockbuster at the box office. In India, it was released on 190 screens, with 19.96 Ã, million tickets sold. The gross domestic is INR 19.73 crore, including net revenue INR 10.74 Ã, crore, which is equivalent to < span> INR 184.4 crore (US $ 27 million) when adjusted for inflation. Its domestic gross is equivalent to INR 339 crore (US $ 51 million) when adjusted for inflation.

Remake

Darr was re-created in Kannada as Preethse , starring Upendra as Chandu (Rahul) Shiva Rajkumar as Surya (Sunil) and Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre playing Kiran.

The teaser trailer of the five parts of the webseries Darr 2.0 was released on YouTube on August 30, 2016. It is to retell the film in a contemporary setting, describing cyber-stalking and digital crimes. Webseries is produced by Ashish Chopra under the banner of Y-Films and directed by Vikash Chandra. Scenarios and dialogue are by Nikhil Taneja and Shubham Yogi.
