Histori

The BBC banned the song from appearing on the Top of the Pops because of the lyrics of "cutting the little boy", and receiving a bit of radio broadcasting in the UK. The lyrics along with the lyrics like "what I choose is my choice" and "the killer in me is the killer in you" has also caused some controversy, because some people read it as a reference for abortion. Corgan has stated that the song reflects the bad relationship he has with his parents as he grows up. However, even with limited restrictions and limited radio time, it still peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. In the US, the song failed to reach Billboard Hot 100 but reached number forty eight on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, it also peaked at number five on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number eight on the Modern Rock Tracks map.

While Pumpkins often produce softer acoustic versions of their louder and more aggressive songs, the band features heavy, electric versions of "Disarm" on British television appearances, as shown in Vieuphoria , and also on US TV live at the MTV Video Music Awards 1994. The electric version changed the tune of the song from the ballad to a more axially driven rock song.

Two different versions of the single were produced. Each version ( Heart and Smile ) features different artwork and different B-sides.

The B-side to the Heart version both includes classic rock songs from the 1970s. "Landslide" was later included in the Pisces Iscariot compilation album , subsequently played significantly at the US Modern Rock station, peaking at number 3 on the chart. "Dancing in the Moonlight" performed well in Australia, where he charted at number 90 on Triple J Hottest 100 in 1994, while "Disarm" did not chart.

The UK 7 "purple vinyl single exclusively b-side" Siamese Dream "feature that did not appear in other physical releases In 2005, the song was released as a digital download as part of the Rarities and B-sides compilation.

The song is featured in the episode "Of Mice and Lem", the second last episode of the 5th season The Shield , in 2006.

The Civil Wars covered the song on their self-titled album in 2013.

Music video

The music video, directed by Jake Scott, is black and white and shows the band members hovering over a picture of a house, an old man walking through an underpass while filming at home, a color recording showing a boy (Sean Adams, now known as Amber Adams) playing outside. Billy Corgan says that he does not want the old man in the video, but Scott insists. The video was aired on MTV at the end of 1993 and was immediately placed into heavy rotation. In 1994, was nominated for Best Alternative Video and Best Editing in Video (Editor: Pat Sheffield) at the MTV Video Music Awards, the first MTV Video Music Pumpkins Award nomination.
