The song debuted and initially reached # 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and # 20 on the Hot Digital Songs charts. Music and lyrics

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic said that his music was "moody and textured, rolling at a deliberate pace and colored with blues and gray, skillfully over the edge of alienation". At Billboard , Jason Lipshutz feels that the album is "interesting when viewed in a larger context as a transitional album; the 12-song collection has a share of the light tariff that can get spun on adult adult radios, but also more boldly and sounds serious ". Elysa Garnder of USA Today states that "the precious remains of the remains are reduced by their muscular hooks and attentive and attentive delivery." At Entertainment Weekly , they said Bareilles was "channeling Fiona Apple and Florence Welch".

In Stingy Anderson, Stacey Anderson pointed out that "The Blessed Unrest is full of broad vocals, heavy expositions of hurt and resilience; the songs are prepared for the rom- com. "Jon Caramanica of The New York Times felt that" vocally, Ms. Bareilles sounded bright, too, and comfortable [...] doing familiar tricks in making melancholy chirps. "

Critical reception

The Blessed Unrest received generally positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, they set a weighted average score based on reviews and ratings of the main critics selected, and Metascore is 68, based on seven reviews.

At AbsolutePunk, Craig Manning feels that Bareilles built "a kind of stunning and nuanced arrangement that picks up his songs beyond the traditional singer/songwriter rates." Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic notes that "melancholy is warm and inviting." On Billboard, Jason Lipshutz stated that "the new album is the result of the riots, but as the title suggests, he has positively embraced his dissatisfaction and later grew as an artist." Elysa Gardner of USA Today called Bareilles "the most mature and satisfying to date, with fewer twee touches damaging previous prices." At Entertainment Weekly , they said the album was "a collection of beautiful recognition sketches."

However, Stacey Anderson at Rolling Stone highlights that the release "suggests a more adventurous path unexplored in its abstract piano and a slightly distorted harmony [...] strange, interesting tool that he can use for both - play a career, if he spoils them. "Because of this, Anderson notes that Bareilles is" too diplomatic. " At The New York Times, Jon Caramanica was mixed in the album, when he mentioned how "Ms. Bareilles is hiding behind a style that is not hers." Brett Faulkner of PopMatters writes that the release was "a well thought out effort, but not without flaws."
