Claude Monet painted a series of oil paintings of the Palace of Westminster, home of the British Parliament, in the autumn of 1899 and the early months of 1900 and 1901 during his stay in London. All series paintings 'share the same point of view from the Monet window or the terrace at St Thomas' Hospital facing the Thames and approximate canvas size from 81 cm - 92 cm (32 in ÃƒÆ'Ã¢ â‚¬ "36 3/8 in). They are, however, painted at different times of day and weather conditions.

At the time of the series Houses of Parliament , Monet has abandoned the practice of initially completing the painting in the place in front of the motive. He keeps improving the pictures in France and sent to London to be photographed to help in this regard. This causes an adverse reaction, but Monet's answer is that the way he creates a work is his or her own business and is up to the viewers to judge the outcome.

In 2018, Tate Britain in London showcased six series paintings, together in one room, during an exhibition aimed at exile while French artists and impressionists in London during the Franco-Prussian War. This is a rare occurrence since no museum has or exhibits more than two in a permanent collection.

The paintings were also featured at Petit Palais when the exhibition traveled from London to Paris.
