Plot

In Seattle, not far from Forks, Victoria still revenge on Bella over James's death. Learning that Laurent was killed by a wolf and replacing him and James, he attacked and bitten Riley Biers to start creating a newborn baby army, which was many times more powerful during their first few months than the older vampires. Back in Forks, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan continue their relationship, and discuss the complications of being a vampire. At the age of eighteen, a year older than Edward when he became a vampire, Bella disliked the idea of marrying young, though Edward refused to turn him into a vampire until they married, his argument being that he must have a normal, human life. While Bella's father, Charlie Swan, investigates the disappearance of Riley Biers, Edward suspects his departure is caused by Victoria and his baby soldiers, advancing Riley Biers' suspicion of intrusion into Bella's room to steal her red blouse.

Bella insists that Jacob Black and the rest of the wolves will never hurt her. Bella wants to go to Jacob's house, though Edward reveals his dislike to Jacob and worries about his safety, but he returns unscathed. During one of his visits, Jacob confessed that he fell in love with Bella, and forcibly kissed her. Enraged, he hit her and dislocated her hand, and Edward then threatened Jacob and told him to just kiss her if he asked her. Bella even revokes an invitation from Jacob and his pack members to her graduation party at Cullen's house, but when Jacob apologizes for her behavior, she forgives him and lets him and the wolf come to the party.

Meanwhile, Alice sees the vision that a new-born soldier will attack Forks in a week, led by Riley Biers. Jacob, accompanied by Quil and Embry, hears this, which leads to an alliance between the Cullens and the wolves. Then, the Cullens and the wolves agree to the meeting place and time to train and discuss strategies against strong newborns. During their training, Jasper explains to Bella that he is a Major in Confederate Forces during the Civil War, and he was created by a vampire named Mary to control the newborn army. He finally realizes that Mary uses him to fulfill his own ambitions. He does not know there's another way until he meets Alice and joins the Cullens. Bella sees the true bond between the married couples and begins to understand Jasper better. Despite his reluctance to marry young, Bella realizes that spending eternity with Edward is more important to her than anything and accepting her marriage proposal, along with her late mother's engagement ring. Edward and Bella's camp in the mountains to hide Bella from a bloodthirsty newborn baby. That night, Bella hears a conversation between Edward and Jacob, where they temporarily override their hatred towards each other. In the morning, Jacob overhears Edward and Bella discussing their engagement and is very angry. Bella desperately asks Jacob to kiss her, and she realizes that she loves him. Edward learns about kisses but is not disappointed, since Bella says he loves her more than Jacob.

When Victoria appears, Edward kills him while Seth kills Riley. The Cullens and the wolf, meanwhile, destroyed his "army", even though Jacob was injured saving Leah from a newborn. Some members of the vampire rulers, Volturi, arrived to deal with the newborn army, and were surprised that Cullen was not killed. They also see that the Cullens keep a newborn baby, Bree Tanner, who refuses to fight and surrenders to Carlisle. Jane had tortured Bree for information, then told Felix to kill her, despite the Cullens' efforts to save her. Carlisle treats Jacob at her home, and Bella visits her to tell him that even though she loves him, she has chosen Edward. Hit by his choice, Jacob reluctantly agrees not to come between him and Edward.

Bella and Edward go to the meadow, where she tells him that she has decided to do something her way: Married, has a normal honeymoon, then turned into a vampire. He also explains that he's never normal and never will, that he feels out of place all his life, but when he's in Edward's world, he feels more powerful and perfect. At the end of the story, they know they need to tell Charlie about their engagement, which Bella likes Edward to be "bulletproof."
